For The Downward Spiral's Hell scenes, Jane Wildgoose's costumes featured anatomical drawings from the works of the Renaissance anatomist, Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564), enlarged to life size.

For the set she projected illustrations from the works of the anatomist Bernard Siegfried Albinus (1697-1770), and scenes from the collage novels of Max Ernst (1891-1976), onto floodlit fabric.
